Animus/A Requiem for Revenge
The first book I wrote was initially titled Animus. Although it'd already been published, I wasn't satisfied with it, believing that I could make it a much better story if I added more content and played around with the storyline. I was right. It turned into a 100K+ word horror novel, now titled A Requiem for Revenge.
This book is the result of a horrific nightmare that I was plagued with for over a year. I would wake up in the middle of the night and jot down what I'd seen in my dream so that I wouldn't forget about it. The more I thought about the nightmare, the idea for a story became clearer and clearer with each dream.
Voila'! Bradley Cavanaugh was born...well, not exactly. In the book he's dead, a victim of an automobile accident, which angers the antagonist, Paige Carlson, because she'd spent a year planning on how to kill him in an act of revenge. A fan of the occult and black magic, Paige concocts a way to resurrect Bradley from the dead just so she can carry out her plans. Needless to say, her plan doesn't go as she'd hoped. The monster she reanimates is worse than the nightmares I had.
Seeing/Ghost Girl (Book #1 in the DeeDee Olsen, Ghost Girl Series)
Like my first book, I reconsidered my second one. I rewrote it, added more content and characters, and turned it into a 95K word novel.
Although this book is fiction, it occurs in the REAL town of Pahokee, Florida, where I was born and grew up. All landmarks mentioned in this book and its two sequels either did or still do exist. I chose to give DeeDee Olsen (the main character) a life in the town that I loved growing up in. Although Pahokee has changed drastically over the years, and not for the better, I breathed new life into it and created a place that still lives on in my mind. I brought back to life stores, places of business, farming and agriculture, and made Pahokee a place that anyone would be proud to call home.
DeeDee's story begins in Ghost Girl. As a young girl, she suffers a traumatic head injury that leaves her with the ability to see and communicate with the dead.
I used a true-life event to create her world. As a youngster of twelve, I suffered the exact same injury as DeeDee does, with one exception. I can't see ghosts. But the trauma was real, the unconsciousness happened, and the injury was sustained while playing softball.
DeeDee's physique and personality is based on...yep, you guessed it...me! How better to create a fictional character than by reimagining oneself in a totally different world? I was, and still am, a tomboy who played softball, bowled competitively, and fished off the pier at the marina in Pahokee using a cane pole.
Hurricane
This book was so much fun to write!!!! As a native south Floridian, I can't tell you how many hurricanes I've been through. I know all about keeping up with the weather bulletins, making preparations, and praying that the storm turns away and goes back out to sea without making landfall.
Let me explain to you what I had to do to create this fictional storm, Hurricane Phillipe. I researched the archives at the National Hurricane Center in Miami and the database for NOAA, printed out all of the tracking maps that showed hurricanes predicted to strike the southern east coast of Florida, printed out all of the bulletins from the National Weather Center, then went to work creating Phillipe. I analyzed and recreated latitudes and longitudes, making adjustments that would shift Phillipe directly to the fictional town of Marcum Island, where Phillipe is predicted to make landfall. I calculated wind speeds and distance required from the eye of the hurricane that would cause massive damage inland, including the destruction of the Herbert Hoover Dike that surrounds Lake Okeechobee.
But I couldn't just make this book about an approaching hurricane and the beach goers who refused to heed warnings from meteorological experts. Why not throw in a cheating husband who accidentally murders his mistress, leaves her in the hotel, and hides at home?
There's a foreword and afterword in this book informing my readers of my own personal experiences with Atlantic hurricanes. I also included significant and important information at the back of the book, including a hurricane tracking map and a preparation list.
This book has been adapted into a screenplay to be turned into a major motion picture. I'll keep you updated on when production begins.
The Punishment Room
I dedicated thirty years of my life working in law enforcement. I have seen things that I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy. The last twelve years of my career was spent working in a juvenile correctional facility that had specialized treatment programs, including one for victims of sexual abuse. Trust me, it isn't a pretty sight.
With the knowledge that I gained over the years working in the career that I chose, I created my protagonist, Josephine "Joey" Sheffield, herself a victim of sexual child abuse at the hands of the one man who was supposed to protect her - her father.
After being gone from her hometown of Cornish, Alabama for fifteen years, Joey is summoned home for what she believes is the funeral of her abusive father. Reluctant to return to Sheffield Manor and the dark memories she left behind, but not wanting to disappoint her sisters by not showing up and paying her last respects, she allows herself to be talked into returning by her eldest sister, Rosemary.
Things aren't quite what they seem. Lies and underhanded schemes were enacted to summon her back home. Someone inside the manor holds a deep-seated grudge against her and is vehemently pursuing a vendetta as payback for the shame she brought upon the family.
Blood isn't always thicker than water, especially when billions of dollars in inheritances are involved. Don't worry, Joey gets the perfect revenge against her money-grubbing family by hitting them where it hurts them the most. Their bank accounts.
I put a warning on this book due to a graphic rape scene.
The Children In the Woods (Book #2 in the DeeDee Olsen, Ghost Girl Series)
Now an adult and Child Psychologist in Pahokee, Florida, DeeDee takes on a new patient, 7-year-old Ethan Portman, whose mother suspects behavioral problems. Ethan is actually being haunted by a twin brother that he never knew existed, and who wants Ethan to join him and stay with him forever.
To save Ethan's life, DeeDee must first learn everything she can about the deceased twin, Nathan Banks. Her investigation into his mysterious death leads her deep into the Florida Everglades and onto the farm of Earl and Maylene Tibbetts, serial child abductors and murderers, who are hiding many dark secrets on their property.
What DeeDee uncovers is every parent's worst nightmare, but spirits of dead children aren't all that's on the farm. Five living children remain and DeeDee has to find a way to rescue them before they become the Tibbetts' next victims.
Dream Weavers
This was another fun book to write. I love a good ghost story, and I let my imagination run wild on this one.
The story takes place in the fictional town of Castleton, Kentucky in a house that has a dark history and is rumored to be haunted. Joan Buchanan doesn't believe in ghosts, so when she's offered the house for a price that's too good to be true, she jumps on it.
There's a dark force present inside the old Borloff manor, and it wants Joan and her two children out of its house. There's also infestations of rats, cockroaches, and spiders. Phantom odors, objects that disappear, and unexplainable noises are just a few of the obstacles Joan faces.
One family member can see what his humans can't. Conroy, the family dog, knows his family is in danger, and he'll do whatever it takes to protect them. Even if that means sacrificing his life for theirs.
Apollyon's War
This book was originally titled Thy Kingdom Come, but guess what I did? Yep, you guessed it. I rewrote it, added more scenes, content, characters, and conflict, turning it into a 120K+ word novel.
Strictly using Biblical prophesy regarding the end of times, I created multiple end-of-the-world scenarios that take place all over the world, yet every event is related to the context of the story.
It all begins with the election of Lucius Maximus to the United States Presidency. Maximus isn't who he appears to be. In fact, he's not even human. His name is Apollyon the Destroyer, aka the Antichrist.
Deadly plagues, hurricanes, volcanoes, insect invasions, and earthquakes are only a few of the disasters in this book that lead to the apocalypse.
I faced some controversy over this book by readers who thought I based Maximus on a certain person whose name I will not mention here. The truth of the matter is...that's an inaccurate assumption, and anyone who thinks or believes it's anything other than a fictional character totally missed the moral of the story, although I clearly state in the beginning of the book that it is fiction based on prophecy. I suppose that no matter how much I try to convince them otherwise, people will continue to believe whatever they want to believe. They're entitled to their own opinions, so I won't fault them for that. However, I DO know the truth, and in the end, that's all that matters.
The Fall of Autumn's Becoming
How many authors can say that they cried at certain parts while writing a book? With this one, I did. I knew that I wanted to create a character with supernatural powers, but I wasn't sure how to begin. Initially, I was going to have her wake up from a years-long coma only to discover that her entire world had changed. I scratched that idea because I thought it was too cliche'.
Enter a new idea. What if...
Autumn Marie Jensen is the main character in this story. The book opens with her taking her baby, a red Chevrolet convertible, out for a night drive to clear her mind of the distressing news she'd received earlier from her doctor. On Route 93, she stops at Gunney's, a convenience store on the strip, planning to buy alcohol, get drunk, and crash her car to commit suicide. But something happens to her inside the store that alters her life dramatically.
This book has a plethora of emotions. Love, anger, confusion, forgiveness, sacrifice, heartache, and many, many others. In total, it's about how far we're willing to go, and the things we're willing to do, for those that we love the most.
Welcome to Cowbell, Daniel Chesterfield
This book is a lot different from the way I usually write; however, I wanted to expand my horizons and create a western-like character who took on a job in a department with law enforcement officers who'd never been trained for their jobs. I thought it'd be fun creating these characters and giving them different personalities. I was right. It was. This novel is the result.
Meet Daniel Chesterfield, former Palm Beach County detective, now the sheriff of a cowpoke, rural town in Montana. He's 6'7" tall with a corny sense of humor, mouth like a sailor, and a great love and respect for law and order.
There's only one problem with becoming the sheriff of Bear Creek County. None of his deputies have ever received formal training in any area of law enforcement. They don't know how to write reports. They don't know how to work accident scenes. And they don't know the processes involved in a murder investigation. What could possibly go wrong?
They get the chance to prove whether or not they're competent enough to work a crime scene when the half naked body of a local rancher's daughter is discovered at Dead Man's Landing, and a post-mortem examination reveals that she'd given birth within minutes of her death but there's no baby at the scene. Dan's investigation will lead him to many suspects, but only one is guilty of murder, and he's closer to Dan than he realizes.

A Killing of Sparrows
This is the 3rd installment in the Ghost Girl series, the collection of books about the life of DeeDee Olsen Blanchard, a medium who sees and communicates with the dead. In this novel, she uses her skills to save the life of Sage Barclay, a 14-year-old whose life is being threatened by her mother's new boyfriend, a serial child killer. DeeDee has plenty of stories to tell, so stay tuned!
The Meadows
This is a dark thriller that involves disturbing secrets, lies, hidden identities, sexual deviance, and a dangerous cult with unorthodox practices.
